Skin Surgery
Skin lesions, scars and skin cancer are treated with the same reconstructive principles as any other surgery: clear the problem completely, then close in a way that heals well and sits where it will be least noticed.
Procedures in this category
- Hyperhidrosis Treatment Treatment for excessive sweating, most often of the underarms. Toxin injections are the first-line treatment and last six to nine months. Surgery is permanent but is reserved for cases where non-invasive treatment fails.
- Scar Revision Surgery Surgical and medical treatment to reduce the appearance and size of scars and to repair the functional problems some of them cause. The approach depends on the type of scar — acne, keloid, hypertrophic or contracture.
- Skin Cancer Removal Surgery Surgical removal of a skin tumour or precancerous lesion, with a margin of healthy tissue, followed by reconstruction of the defect. Classic excision and Mohs micrographic surgery are the two approaches used.
- Skin Graft Surgery Skin taken from an unaffected area of the patient's own body and transplanted to cover a burn. Split-thickness and full-thickness grafts differ in how much skin is taken, which donor sites are used, and how long recovery takes.
