Breast Implant Ultrasound Screening in Cyprus

Ultrasound uses sound waves, not radiation, to create detailed images of breast implants and the tissue around them. It is suited to routine monitoring, particularly for patients who have had implants for several years or who have noticed a change in how the breasts look or feel.

The scan is performed by Dr Theodora Papavasiliou in Nicosia, Limassol and Malta, and is free of charge.

What the scan checks for

• Silent rupture or leakage, particularly of silicone implants
• Changes in implant shape or position
• Fluid around the implant or inflammation of the surrounding tissue
• Signs of complications such as capsular contracture

What happens during the scan

A warm gel is applied to the breast and a handheld probe (transducer) captures the images. There are no needles and the examination is painless. It takes 10–15 minutes, and normal activities can be resumed straight away.
