Dr. Demetris Stavrou, MD, MSc, leads the European Institute of Plastic Surgery. He was born in Nicosia, Cyprus. He grew up in a family of doctors and soon understood the unique relationship between doctor and patient. He graduated from the University of Athens Medical School and finished his residency in Plastic Surgery at the Chaim Sheba Medical Center at Tel-Hashomer, Israel. There, he received expert training in the latest techniques of cosmetic and reconstructive plastic surgery from some of the world’s top Medical Scientists. He continued his training with a fellowship in “Advanced Aesthetic Surgery” at the prestigious Melbourne Institute of Plastic Surgery.

Dr. Stavrou has extensive experience in breast reconstruction after breast cancer and cosmetic procedures following weight loss surgery. He is expertly using cutting-edge techniques for facelift, burn reconstruction and skin cancer surgery. He is cooperating with leading medical centers abroad as a visiting Plastic Surgeon. Since 2012, he has been an Assistant Professor at St George’s, University of London, and at the Medical School of the University of Nicosia. He is also an Honorary Tutor at the University of Cardiff, School of Medicine in the UK, and a member of the European Board of Plastic, Reconstructive & Aesthetic Surgery (EBOPRAS) and the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS).

Cosmetic Surgery 

Cosmetic surgery involves procedures and techniques focused on enhancing our cosmetic appearance. • Breast Augmentation

Men or adolescent boys with overdeveloped breasts often endure emotional and psychological trauma. When actual breast tissue is present, surgical removal of the glandular tissue is necessary. Liposuction can also help when excess fat is the main culprit of the enlarged breasts. With either surgical approach (or a combination of both), the surrounding chest area is sculpted so that men can enjoy a more masculine-looking chest.

• Nipple Reconstruction

Nipple reconstruction is performed to improve aesthetics (size, shape and projection). It can also be a part of breast reconstruction. In this case, the nipples can be recreated through a combination of carefully arranged flaps. Alternatively, skin from the opposite nipple with similar texture and color may be used for a grafting procedure.

• Mastopexy

Often, the breasts lose volume and elasticity after pregnancy or through the natural aging process. By lifting and reshaping your breasts, a mastopexy procedure can correct drooping and sagginess. As a result, the breasts appear tighter, firmer and more youthful.

• Augmentation Mastopexy

Implants can restore lost breast volume, but they cannot defy gravity. If a moderate/severe amount of sagging exists, adding an implant is unlikely to produce an aesthetically pleasing outcome. A breast lift can correct sagging and raise the nipple. Combining the two procedures can ensure that any breast size increase looks natural with your proportions and aesthetically pleasing in and out of clothing.

• Implant Removal

Women choose to have their implants removed from personal preference or medical complications.  Using a breast implant removal technique called ‘en bloc removal’, both the implant and the capsule are removed as one.

It is often necessary to perform a breast lift at the same time, depending on the severity of sagging and nipple position. After some time, breasts eventually return to their pre-augmentation state.

• Rhinoplasty

You should consider nose job surgery if you are unhappy with the following:

• Shape, size or projection of your nose
• Your nose is too large, too small or not in proportion to the rest of your face
• You have breathing problems resulting from irregularities inside your nose 
• You have a nasal hump or a nasal tip that is drooping, too elevated or wide.

There are two main techniques for making the incisions: open rhinoplasty and closed rhinoplasty.

For an open rhinoplasty, the incisions are made outside the nose. A small access incision on the underside of the nose between the nostrils connects with other incisions hidden inside the nose.

The open rhinoplasty approach fully opens the nose, providing better visualization of the nasal structures and a more direct route for surgical manipulation. The small scar at the base of the nose is barely visible once it heals.

For a closed rhinoplasty, the incisions are made inside the nasal passages. Incisions are hidden.

The closed rhinoplasty approach permits more limited dissection of nasal tissues. It offers excellent visualization of nasal structures, with no visible scar at the base of the nose. 

By adding or removing bone and cartilage and adjusting the supporting structures inside the nose, the size of your nose can be reduced or increased. The nose may be shortened or lengthened.

Tip grafts made of cartilage can be used to remodel the tip of your nose, making it more uplifted, longer, shorter, or thinner. Your skin and other soft tissues will remodel to assume the shape of the underlying structure.

You may wear a splint after surgery which can usually come off about a week after your operation. You will need to wait for 4-6 weeks before you can engage in exercise or athletics.

Be prepared for it to take several months before your nose completely settles into its new shape. The results of rhinoplasty are permanent.
