Lip Fillers & Augmentation In Cyprus

Lips are a prominent feature of the face and their appearance is an undeniable determinant of attractiveness.

Full and well-shaped lips add to a person’s overall beauty. That’s why more and more patients opt for lip enhancement treatments with injectable fillers of hyaluronic acid or fat injection.

What’s more, full and luscious lips offer a younger, more feminine look to the whole face.

What Are Lip Fillers for Lip Augmentation?

The lips get thinner or smaller as we grow, while the groove between the upper lip and septum becomes flatter and longer.

Lip dermal fillers with hyaluronic acid is a substance that makes lips fuller and bigger, and can also reduce the signs of aging around the lips. A specialized doctor will inject the dermal filler into the lips or around the mouth, depending on the patient’s expectations.

Some people may opt for lip fillers because their upper and lower lips are asymmetrical.

This type of dermal fillers is also known as “hyaluronic acid fillers,” and has fewer side effects than collagen injection and lip fat implants.

Where Will Lip Enhancement Take Place?

Dr. Stavrou performs non-invasive lip augmentation with dermal fillers in the European Institute of Plastic Surgery in Cyprus and in accredited medical centers in Greece and Malta.

The staff involved is thoroughly trained and specialized in cosmetic procedures. Dr. Stavrou wants to ensure a safe, well-controlled and comfortable experience for all of his patients.

The European Institute of Plastic Surgery (EIPS) offers exceptional health care and meets the high standards of safety and care set by European laws. EIPS clinics in Limassol and Nicosia provide individualized health care in an exclusive and luxurious environment.

What Is Hyaluronic Acid In Lip Fillers?

Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a substance found in every tissue of the human body, but the highest concentration of it (almost 50%) is present in the face. Hyaluronic supports the formation and maintenance of collagen and makes lips look fuller, enhanced and more attractive.

Today, HA is safely produced in the laboratory to create facial and lip dermal fillers.

Some of the most popular FDA-approved hyaluronic acid fillers for the lips are:

  • Juvéderm Ultra
  • Juvéderm Ultra Plus
  • Belotero Balance

How Is Lip Augmentation Done?

Lip filler injection is a safe and simple procedure performed in the doctor’s office. It has little or no downtime.

Dr Stavrou applies local anesthetic cream to numb the lips and minimize discomfort during and after treatment. After 15 to 30 minutes, when the lips will be numb, he uses disposable, fine needles (syringes) to insert tiny amounts of dermal filler into the patient’s lips and/or around them for treating the signs of aging.

The injection process takes from a few minutes up to an hour. After the injection is complete, the doctor evaluates the result and adds more filler if necessary.

Dr Stavrou may offer the patient an ice pack to reduce potential swelling and alleviate discomfort. Patients can resume their everyday activities and return to work immediately after the procedure. Lip enhancement will be noticeable on the same day.

FAQs for Lip Enhancement

How long do lip fillers last?

The results of lip fillers can last up to a year, yet most patients repeat the treatment after 6-12 months.

For a permanent result, choose lip augmentation with fat injection.

Are lip fillers painful?

Most patients do not experience pain during or after lip filler injection, as the surgeon uses a topical anesthetic/numbing cream on or around the lips before performing the treatment.

However, some patients might feel mild pain at the injection sites, which typically goes away after 12-24 hours.

Will lips go back to normal after fillers?

Yes, your lips will return to their normal appearance when the dermal filler is dissolved – usually around 12 months after the lip augmentation treatment.

Even though lip fillers are not permanent, you can maintain the results with routine touch-up treatments performed by your plastic surgeon.

Can you get lip fillers while pregnant?

No, the Food and Drug Administration ( FDA ) has not yet approved lip fillers’ use for pregnant women, because there is no sufficient research on the safety of dermal fillers during pregnancy.

Are lip fillers safe?

Yes, lip fillers injection is a safe procedure with a very low risk of side effects and other complications.

However, they are safe only when performed by a licensed and trusted doctor who has experience in cosmetic procedures and uses FDA-approved products.

Request and read the patient labeling information on the lip fillers your doctor has chosen for you. Do not buy lip fillers sold directly to the public from online websites or physical shops. You can buy FDA-approved lip fillers only with a prescription. Do not inject yourself with lip fillers on your own.

Lip fillers are safe and effective only in the right hands. Contact the experienced and board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Stavrou to learn more about lip augmentation with fillers at +357 9787 3787, +357 700 88 002 or +30 6971 881 572.

Can you eat after lip fillers?

Yes, you can eat after lip enhancement with fillers when the topical numbness from the anesthetic cream has worn off, so you won’t accidentally disturb the filler or bite your lips.

Avoid using straws, smoking, drinking alcohol or wiping your face and lips for at least 24 hours after treatment.

Can you get lip fillers while pregnant?

It is not recommended to get lip fillers or any cosmetic procedures during pregnancy due to potential risks to the developing fetus. Safety during pregnancy has not been well studied, so it’s essential to prioritize the health of both the mother and the baby. It is generally advised to wait until after pregnancy and breastfeeding before undergoing any cosmetic procedures.

Do lip fillers hurt?

Lip fillers can cause some discomfort or mild pain during the procedure, as the lips are a sensitive area with many nerve endings. However, measures are taken to minimize this. Before the injections, a topical numbing cream is often applied, and some fillers contain lidocaine to reduce pain. Skilled practitioners use ultrafine needles and may use ice to numb the lips. While there may be some discomfort, most people find it tolerable and short-lived. Mild swelling or tenderness in the lips after the procedure is normal but typically resolves within a few days.

Medical tourism in Cyprus & Greece for lip augmentation

Cyprus and Greece are popular destinations for medical tourism. People from all over Europe and Eastern countries choose to have plastic surgery and other non-invasive cosmetic procedures, such as lip fillers, in Nicosia, Limassol or Athens, where they can find experienced plastic surgeons, while enjoying the warm weather and great local hospitality.

How long does swelling last after lip fillers?

Swelling after lip fillers can vary but typically lasts for a few days to a week. The most noticeable swelling occurs on the first day and gradually reduces over the next 24 to 48 hours. By the third or fourth day, significant improvement is usually seen, with most swelling resolved within a week. Individual responses may differ, and staying hydrated, avoiding salty foods, and using cold compresses can aid in reducing swelling.

Can you smoke after lip fillers?

After getting lip fillers, it is advisable to avoid smoking, especially in the immediate post-procedure period. Smoking can hinder the healing process by reducing blood flow and oxygen levels in the tissues, potentially affecting the results and recovery. To ensure optimal healing and successful outcomes, refrain from smoking for a few days to a week after the treatment.

Can you work out after lip fillers?

After getting lip fillers, it’s generally safe to work out. However, avoid intense physical activity on the same day as the procedure, and wait at least 24 hours before engaging in strenuous exercise. During the first day, avoid touching or putting pressure on your lips to allow the filler to settle. Stay hydrated, avoid extreme temperatures, and listen to your body for any discomfort.

Can you drink alcohol after lip fillers?

After getting lip fillers, it is advisable to avoid drinking alcohol for at least 24 hours. Alcohol can thin the blood and increase the risk of bruising and swelling. It’s important to allow the filler to settle and stay well-hydrated during the healing process. If you choose to consume alcohol, do so in moderation and wait at least 24 hours after the procedure.

How often can you get lip fillers?

The frequency of getting lip fillers depends on the type of filler used and how long the effects last, typically ranging from 6 months to 1 year. It’s generally safe to have touch-up treatments once the effects wear off. Overusing lip fillers or having them done too frequently may not be advisable, so consult a qualified provider to create a personalized treatment plan based on your health, medical history, and aesthetic goals.
